Our Mission Statement

We exist:

     To win people to Jesus
To welcome them into His family
To work to equip them for ministry
     To walk in spiritual maturity
To worship God everyday in every way

Our Vision Statement

First Christian Church will become a reflection of Christ to the city of Porterville, proclaiming His word with boldness through our missional style of reaching into the community with the full Word of God, both in word and deed.

Our theater, the Chalice Palace, is doing quite well, with attendance around a dozen per screening.

Next, on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. is Saving God with Ving Rhames (known for the Mission: Impossible movies).  In this 2008 movie, convicted felon Rev. Armstrong returns back to his neighborhood a changed man looking to take over his father’s old church. The neighborhood is tough and full of drugs and gangs. Through Armstrong’s tough demeanor and strong faith he tries to make a difference with Norris —  a youth on the edge of falling into a lifetime of drugs and gangs.  Also, Armstrong must deal with his own past history of violence and make sure he doesn’t fall again.

Concerning the popcorn cook-off challenge, the majority of us concede to Pastor Joe as champ for 2011, but this is 2012!!!  Pastor’s going to have to do more than bacon flavored popcorn this time!

Some “fixer-up” projects we have planned are: Prayer Garden slat removal and replacement and cleaning the light fixtures in the fellowship hall.

Our “Happy Birthday Jesus Party” was a great success.  We had twenty children who enjoyed the puppet theatre, especially the confetti that Daniel threw.  They made three crafts and received a gift.  They also enjoyed cupcakes and juice.

Our “Christmas Donuts” was a very nice fellowship time.  The children really enjoyed them and went home on a sugar high.  We are looking forward to Christmas 2012.

The “Chickens Across the World Project” is going well.  I will have a total next month.

The International Dinner has been changed from February to April 21 due to a scheduling problem.

We will need baked goods for the Yard Sale.

Wishing you a joyous and peaceful New Year.

    The Elders

The elders met Wednesday, November 30th. After a "Blessed Meal" the group viewed a DVD by Robert Morris entitled, The God We Never Knew. The lesson dealt with the Holy Spirit, who is a person.

    1. The Holy Spirit has a mind.
    2. He has a will.
    3. He has emotions.

We will be sharing more about the Holy Spirit, our helper.

Verla Everett, co-chair of the elders

    The Trustees

The new computer equipment and software has been purchased for the finance office. The cost was well within the budgeted amount. While there is a learning curve for the new software, the finance staff is working hard to master it.

Mitch reminded the Council that the change of fiscal year was approved. The next stewardship campaign will take place in August of 2012, and the congregational meeting for next year will be on December 2, 2012.
